Facebook pages

I've been playing around with Facebook pages for our library and things are not quite as simple as I had hoped they might be. I want to add a 'wall' feature to a new app titled 'Youth' but haven't succeeded yet. Perhaps we will need to continue using the Blurb It blog and deliver the posts to the Facebook Youth app instead???

Blog posts now linked to Facebook. Challenge will be to maintain posts - New Year's resolution perhaps??

Linking to my Facebook account

I am going to test linking my blog to my Facebook account using NetworkedBlogs app. If this is successful I can applications for MCPOW and their online presence.

Folksonomies and Tagging

The notion that you can access your favourite sites from any computer is really attractive to me and I am sure it would be useful to many people who blur the lines between work and home (now not that's not me!).
The Emerging Media wiki could make good use of Del.icio.us as it is rapidly expanding with a list of websites and new technology tools. Websites added to the delicious account would have appropriate tags added and then link the delicious account to the wiki.
I can see value in creating delicious account for various work units that make regular use of websites so staff could share the information and not have to duplicate the effort in creating and maintaining their own separate bookmarks.

RSS feeds

Think I have finally organised my RSS feeds. I'm now subscribing via Bloglines, and have this set up as one of the (several) home pages that open when I open my Firefox browser in the morning. That way I figure I can check the latest feeds when I start my day.
I've chosen to add some library blog sites, some techie ones as well as the beautiful images from the Powerhouse Museum for starters. Will keep adding as I see others but will also try to cull the ones I find less useful so the situation doesn't become unmanageable - well that is the plan.

So now I am looking forward to seeing what news these blogs bring me each morning, adding to the twitter info that feeds in all day as well :) Information overload? I dont' think so.

Social Networks

I'm a big fan of social networking which to me is just an online way of connecting with people. I find it particularly usefull in maintaining distant connections i.e. friends working overseas. I can chat, upload photos and keep in regular contact without the expense of either travelling or phoning them - and time issues/zones are not a problem!
My favourite social networking tool is without question - Twitter. The serendipity of information, academic, social, newsworthy, and the immediacy of the information is remarkable. In just 140 characters I can afford the time to tweet and keep up to date with other's tweets and I enjoy the community of those I have selectively chosen to follow. In a time-poor world I think this is really valuable.
I love the way libraries are starting to embrace Twitter and keep their followers informed of events and activities. It also helps to present the library as a more personable face, more than just a building, it gives a voice to the environment that reaches beyond the walls. This is particularly important when libraries such as SLQ have clients that are distant.

Wikis

I enjoyed seeing the Mint wiki from the Mint Museum Library but was disappointed that there didn't appear to be any comments added. It would seem quite a bit of work to maintain this wiki and without public feedback/comment, this content could just as easily have sat on a website. Somehow they need to market this better - or have I missed the comments section?

I think it would be great to see SLQ's new resources highlighted via a wiki. Our convict database webpage links to a feedback form - this could be hosted on a wiki so feedback/comments are visible.
